The Leveler News is a digital media outlet dedicated to the public interest in Yonkers, NY. We are building a collaborative community resource for high quality information, visuals, in-depth reporting on local and national news, international affairs, social issues and government.

Melissa Bunni Elian is the founder of The Leveler News. She is a multimedia journalist based in New York. Elian's work has been featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times, NYT Magazine and NPR. In 2017 she was commissioned by Google for the Equal Justice Initiative's Lynching in America Project. The work was exhibited at The Brooklyn Museum. Her work weaves narrative nonfiction, documentary photography and video to analyze culture and interrogate the foundations of structural inequality and other social problems. Her aim is to broaden the perspectives people use to make sense of the world. Elian is a 2020 graduate of Columbia Journalism School. In 2022 she worked as a Photography Resident at National Geographic. Melissa Bunni Elian is currently working to build a progressive local news outlet in her hometown of Yonkers, NY.
